I was scheduled to drive out to California less than 2 months after the accident. Unfortunately, the lies significantly delayed repairs, and there were many effects of the accident which cost me dearly, in dollars, time, and stress.
TOTAL COST TO ME: $6,444
Half of the insurance deductable
COST: $500
Double rent, since I had already leased a place in California, but could not move or sublet the NYC apartment for over 2 and a half months.
COST: $4,000
Multiple attempts to fix uncontrolled shaking in the front end failed, but was finally repaired in California, at a cost to me. The insurance company would not cover this damage. The violent shaking started right after the accident, at speeds above 40 mph, when breaking. The right axle was only 2 years old, suffered a direct hit in the accident, and was the cause of the violent shaking.
COST: $1,000
Extra 2+ months of NYC parking fees for extended stay in NYC, including the 4 weeks I didnt even have the car parked there.
COST: $640
Cabs during the 4 weeks without a car
COST: $200
Insurance for 4 weeks on a car I couldnt use:
COST: $77
Christmas present for Chris Dietrich – a Joe Wilson “You Lie” t-shirt. Yea, this was a nice touch ![]()
COST: $27
Time lost investigating the accident, fighting with Stephen Worth’s insurer (Chubb), finding security camera video, and lost time away from friends during my last few months in NYC.
COST: priceless
Chris Dietrich knew he just ran a red light. Here’s how he handled it, and how the lie developed.
Stephen Worth appeared out of the back seat of his vehicle a bit dazed, about 15 minutes after the accident. Seems like he hit his head during the accident, but claimed he was perfectly fine. The cars took most of the impact – its the way cars are designed to function. I had my seatbelt on, and was nowhere near to being injured. It was only my vehicle that suffered the damage, which would cost over $10,000 at cash prices (as opposed to insurance negotiated labor rates).
Stephen Worth probably didnt have a seatbelt on, so he was the only person injured in the accident. He didn’t speak much. Maybe he was drunk – I assume thats why he had a driver take him all the way to NYC from Carversville, PA. But he definitely had to piss. I could have told him to go to a restaurant a block away, if he had only asked – I lived on that same block. But instead he chose to duck behind some cars at the Mercedes dealership to relieve himself, right there in Midtown Manhattan, which happened to be a stones throw from my apartment building. Lovely.
Sure, a 25 year-old wasted on PBR is expected to piss against the side of a building, next to a dumpster in Bushwick. But a 52 year-old on 11th Avenue? Sure, it’s NYC, just piss like a homeless man. Except the city is a bit nicer these days. Classy.
The NYPD confirmed the vehicle registration provided to police was for a vehicle registered to Worth and Company, not to Stephen Worth.
But according to Stephen Worth, he was being driven back to Pennsylvania after a big NYC dinner, on a Saturday evening. NYC is far outside Worth’s sphere of business activity, which is primarily Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.
There is a reasonable likelihood that Worth used his company registered Mercedes S550 for personal use. And what business purpose does a Mercedes S550 serveĀ for a construction firm that specializes in mechanical systems?
Could it be that Worth is writing off personal expenses through his company? To stay legal, he would be required to reimburse the company for any personal use of the vehicle, otherwise his personal car would effectively be tax-free.
How many of his personal vehicles are registered through his company? According to a September 2008 court decision in a zoning dispute, he has a 3 car garage and intended to build another 1,800 square-foot garage.
